Are you tired of feeling stuck in survival mode or feeling your life is out of control?

Maybe you’re here because you’ve been carrying the weight of a traumatic experience, and it feels like it’s taking over your life. Nights are restless as you struggle to shake the feeling that someone—or something—is watching you. Crowded spaces feel overwhelming, your head constantly on a swivel, scanning for threats. You might even notice that your anxiety, once manageable, has spiraled out of control, especially after big life changes It’s exhausting, and no matter what you try, you can’t seem to fully relax or let your guard down.

Living with Trauma

can feel like you’re trapped in a cycle of hypervigilance. Your mind races with worst-case scenarios, even in the safest of environments. Maybe you catch yourself doubting everyone around you, even people who have proven themselves trustworthy. It’s LONELY and isolating—like you’re stuck inside your own head, unable to connect with others. You might feel ashamed of how guarded you’ve become, constantly apologizing for needing reassurance or feeling like a burden to those you care about. This emotional exhaustion seeps into every part of your life, leaving you drained and disconnected.

Trauma doesn’t just affect your mind—it takes a toll on your body, too. Maybe you’ve noticed yourself jumping at the slightest sound or flinching if someone moves too quickly. Your body feels like it’s always on high alert, preparing for danger that isn’t even there. You might avoid situations that feel risky, trusting new people, or even forming close relationships. Instead, you retreat, isolate yourself just to feel a little safer. But that safety comes at a cost: loneliness and the nagging feeling that something is still missing.

And then there’s the guilt—the internal struggle that comes with not being able to “just move on.” Maybe you feel stuck between wanting to build stronger relationships and feeling too overwhelmed to try. Even when you push yourself to socialize, it can feel like the world is moving in fast-forward while you’re stuck in panic mode. Maybe on the surface, you might appear calm, but inside, you’re exhausted from holding it all together. It’s no wonder that, at the end of the day, all you want to do is retreat back into yourself.

IT DOESNT HAVE TO FEEL THIS WAY

Your brain and body are incredibly resilient, and with the right support, you can move beyond the pain and reclaim your life. Together, we’ll help you process the past, reconnect with yourself, and create the kind of life that feels safe, fulfilling, and worth living. You deserve more than just surviving—you deserve to truly thrive.

Are you longing to feel calm, confident, and in control again?

Maybe you’re here because certain experiences from your past keep showing up in your present—memories that won’t stay buried, anxiety that seems to come out of nowhere, or sleepless nights that leave you feeling drained. It might stem from a painful betrayal, a recent trauma, or even something in your childhood that’s making it difficult to form meaningful connections. Whatever it is, you’re tired of feeling stuck and ready to find relief.

At Therapy for Families, We specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based approach that helps teens and adults heal from trauma and overwhelming experiences. EMDR is designed to help your brain and body work through those painful memories so they lose their emotional charge, giving you freedom from the weight you’ve been carrying. This process allows you to feel less triggered, more in control, and able to navigate life with greater peace and resilience.

Healing doesn’t mean forgetting the past—it means finding a way to move forward without it defining you. Through EMDR, we’ll work together to uncover what’s holding you back and help your mind naturally process those experiences in a way that creates space for growth, connection, and peace. You deserve to feel like yourself again, and I’m here to help you get there.

EMDR Treatment Can Help with a Variety of Difficulties:

EMDR is recognized as a very effective treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is also effective for healing childhood wounds and repairing attachment injuries. Some of the benefits associated with EMDR therapy include reduction of symptoms, decreased hyper-vigilance, diminished feelings of re-traumatization, and increased ability to be present. Additionally, EMDR can be effective for treating:

According to the EMDR Institute, more than 30 controlled outcome studies on EMDR therapy revealed positive effects of EMDR therapy. In some of these studies, as many as 90% of trauma survivors appeared to have no PTSD symptoms after just three sessions (7 July 2019).

Attachment-Focused EMDR Can Help Heal Childhood Wounds and Attachment Disruptions

Security, support, acceptance, affection, and love are attributes of healthy, positive relationships. For most of us, our first experiences with meaningful relationships occur in our family of origin. We model how we relate to others in relationships on how our parents or caregivers loved and treated us. Additionally, we may find ourselves repeating patterns we learned in childhood.

For those who grew up in dysfunctional families or where abuse of any kind was present, our experiences can cause later relational difficulties and lingering trauma responses. Individuals with emotionally immature parents may also have difficulty formulating healthy attachments in later life. In instances where secure attachment was disrupted, there may be a sense of loss, grief, pain, or absence of connection. In addition to the presence of emotionally charged childhood wounds, some individuals experience "lack of" experiences. Examples may include feelings of abandonment, lack of affection, and not feeling loved, seen, or accepted. The absence of these formative experiences can be repaired through attachment-focused EMDR therapy.

This approach involves reprocessing attachment breakdowns and installing positive new objective memories that no longer carry the heaviness and distress of the original memory. In situations where positive experiences were absent, your therapist can help you create new neural networks that allow you to fill in these deficits. By re-imagining your original attachment relationships and substituting memories where you felt loved, accepted, and seen, you can repair attachment wounds and lay the foundation for healthier relationships.

EMDR Treatment in 8 phases:

There are eight phases in EMDR therapy:

  1. Initial history discovery: The therapist learns as much as they can about your medical and personal history as necessary to address your issues of concern.
  2. Treatment planning and preparation: This is the process in which the therapist tailors the application of available treatment resources to your individual goals and needs. The therapist will foster a safe therapeutic relationship with you where you can feel secure during sessions. The therapist will guide you through what the EMDR process entails and help you develop tools to manage emotions.
  3. Assessment: The therapist works with you to identify specific memories or experiences to focus on during reprocessing. You will discuss your negative associations about the experience and consider what a positive or healthy view of the experience looks like to you.
  4. Desensitization and reprocessing: At this point in treatment, the therapist will activate your memory of the traumatic experience and help you reprocess the event in a new, more positive way.
  5. Installation: The focus is on “installing” and increasing the strength of the positive cognition you want to replace the original negative cognition.
  6. Body scan: After the positive cognition has been fully installed, you will hold the target event in mind and identify any residual tension in the form of body sensations.
  7. Closure: The therapist helps you return to equilibrium at the end of each session, regardless of whether reprocessing is complete.
  8. Reevaluation: Finally, this phase includes the additional targeting, reassessing, and reviewing necessary to ensure optimal treatment effects.
